If you are having breakage problems with your black hair use these tips to help you gain better hair health:
*Trim your hair monthly to get rid of split ends which will only move further up the hair shaft and cause more damage. Try to prevent any more split ends by making sure your hair is moisturised daily, paying particular attention to those ends.
*Avoid products which contain bad alcohols[SD/denatured/ethyl alcohol also called ethanol (or sometimes just referred to as simply alcohol on labels] benzyl, methyl and iso propyl alcohol. These small molecules which easily vaporise, dry out the hair and cause breakage. Look at product labels to see if these are in your hair product and try to avoid them, especially, if they are one of the first ingredients listed.
*Lessen your exposure to direct heat. The high heat exposure will cause damage to the hair. The two most common equipment used to apply direct heat to the hair are the flat iron and the blow dryer. Opt to use hooded dryer instead of the blow dryer and only use a flat iron once a week.
*Wrap your hair using a silk scarf nightly. Your silk scarf will not absorb the oil from your hair, so this will prevent the dryness that causes breakage. You should, however, use a leave-in conditioner or moisturising lotion on the hair before putting on the scarf.
*If your scalp is dry you should moisturize it with some hair oil. Some good oils are shea butter and carrot oil. Avoid hair products which contain petrolatum and mineral oil. These clog pores in the scalp and do not help hair growth.
